A design practice for the contemporary people
There is a famous proclamation ; "An ornamentation is a crime".
That word was about 120 years ago, and designers have blindly pursued simplicity without decoration.
But still, we are living surrounded by the ornamentation, which paradoxically indicates the need for ornamentation.
"DRESSs" is an experimental design studio based in Tokyo.
We design genderless pieces for us, the contemporary human being.
Our design is conceptual, sculptural, abstract, radical enough to express ourselves, yet minimal as well.
The origin of the word "dress" is "to arrange or prepare".
We add a small "s" to the word as an ornamentation, which may help you express yourself in a contemporary life.
Design & Material
We design pieces not just as an accessories, but as a sculpture with functionality, dispeling all stereotypes.
While designing our pieces, we repeatedly verify the detail in 0.1mm increments,
then complete by reproducing with 3D printing.
In order to reproduce fine details, most of our pieces are made of acrylic and rhodium plated brass.
